I worked out recently that over the years I've written and jotted, scribbled and noted down a zillion ideas, pitches, stories, poems, articles, outlines, all about food. And photographed it too. So here we are, a place for all these ideas to be archived and hopefully, read. Last night I met a reluctant blogger. We agreed that she was shouting about her food loves, but quietly, hoping no one would notice. I'm probably of a similar ilk.
If you've noticed the title, (and how could you not since you're here) you may be thinking, no false modesty going on. I wanted to call my blog Burnt Toast, but that's been taken. The Evening Standard called me the Queen of Organic Markets. Having dropped the word organic, here I am.
For the last eleven years I've been organising farmers' markets in London. Some of the markets I started up include Marylebone, Pimlico, Queens Park, Parliament Hill, and Walthamstow.
So yes, I love markets. My friends say about me that wherever I am in the world I'll find the place where local people shop, the locals market and independent shops and the places local people eat. I find myself drawn to markets. I can't help myself.
I've made a tv documentary about whelks, radio features on the history of corned beef, and confectionary, written food articles for various magazines, Food stories are fascinating. I love finding out what we eat, why we eat it, where, when and everything besides.
Some of the posts here are going to be about markets. Some are going to be on subjects close to my heart. I may post some of my poems if I'm feeling brave. I'll also post the articles and recipes I've written. Food reviews possibly, and being me, I'm more likely to review if the ingredients are sustainable, seasonal and local. I may even deviate from food to talk about the area I live. Whatever I write, you and your comments are welcome. Welcome to my world!
Great start Cheryl! Welcome to the blogosphere :)
